Steve Bruce has had a successful time as Hull City manager, having taken the job in the summer of 2012, first guiding them to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and then keeping them up in the top flight last season.
But, it seems to be heading down hill, as another defeat this weekend, although against a team unbeaten at home in leaders Chelsea, sees Hull in 19th, with just 2 wins from 16 games in the league. Hull haven't won since beating Crystal Palace at home on the 4th October, with 5 losses and 4 draws since. Their only other win in the league came against QPR away on the opening weekend of the season. They've also only scored 2 goals in their last 8 premier league games, and the decision to let Shane Long go, was a strange one for me in the first place. Abel Hernandez is back, but hasn't scored since returning from the birth of his child. I like Hernandez, and do believe him to be a quality goal scorer, but sometimes, players can take time to settle, and show their true abilities.
I'm just wondering now, how long the Owners will give Steve Bruce, and is he now seriously fighting to keep his job?
There's 3 games left in December, and Hull City have 2 home games against Swansea and Leicester, with an away trip to Sunderland sandwiched between on Boxing Day. I'm thinking they'll expect at least 6 points from those 3 games, and anything less just won't do. I can see Swansea beating Hull, especially as the Swans have a striker in-form, in Bony. Sunderland are a tough side at the moment at home, and have 6 draws from 9 home games this season. Sunderland haven't won since 3rd November, and have drawn 5 and lost 1 since that. I can see Sunderland getting at least a point from this one, or even edging the win. Leicester have lost 7 from 8 of their away games this season, and I can actually see Hull winning this one, although, Hull have only won 1 league game at home this season.
Into the New Year, and it doesn't get any easier for Steve Bruce, as they play Everton at home on New Years Day, Arsenal away 3 days later, and then its West Brom, West Ham and Newcastle United to complete January's fixtures.
They had a busy transfer window Hull, but it definitely hasn't paid off, and it'll be interesting to see what happens in January's window.
