Foot Infection Claims Life Of Talented Chriselliam

Leading Qipco 1000 Guineas hope Chriselliam has been put down after failing to recover from a foot infection.

The Charlie Hills-trained daughter of Iffraaj triumphed in the Fillies Mile at Ascot last season from the classy Rizeena, before connections took the brave decision to send her to the Breeders' Cup.
And they were rewarded at Santa Anita when she streaked clear under Richard Hughes to win the Juvenile Fillies Turf in tremendous style.

Last month Hills revealed that Chriselliam had been suffering with a poisoned foot and was recovering at the Equine Hospital in Lambourn before being moved to Newmarket.

Hills told the Racing Post on Friday: "The vets were unable to get the infection under control with the antibiotics.

"She went up for surgery earlier today and they found the infection had spread and she had to be put down. It was progressing into the pedal bone. She has had the problem for a month and during that time every effort has been made to resolve it but unfortunately it was uncontrollable."

Shocking news. Condolences to her connections. RIP.

Irving Out Of Betfair Hurdle

Paul Nicholls says Irving will not take part in the Betfair Hurdle on Saturday, due to likely Heavy ground at Newbury.
Irving had been as short as 5/1 favourite for the contest. Paul Nicholls said on Twitter that Far West would run alongside Irish Saint, who will relish the conditions.
Irving is a 10/1 shot for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle, at the Cheltenham Festival.

Horse Racing News In-Brief - All The Latest

Frankel And Midday Produce A Filly

The unbeaten Frankel and six-time Group 1 winning Midday have produced a bay filly. Paddy Power have offered odds of 66/1 on the filly winning the 2017 1000 Guineas, and 66/1 on the filly winning the 2017 Epsom Oaks.

Latest Weather Problems

Thursday's cards at Clonmel (IRE) and Taunton have been abandoned but there is still plenty of racing to look forward to, including action from Meydan (UAE), Huntingdon and Doncaster, and all-weather from Wolverhampton.
Friday's card at Bangor-On-Dee is subject to an 8:30 am inspection on Thursday morning.
Newcastle's clerk is continuously monitoring the situation for their card on Friday, but more rain is expected, with the current going described as Heavy.
Sunday's fixture at Exeter has been made an all-hurdle affair, after three chases were abandoned due to waterlogging. There are three replacement hurdle races to be programmed.

There is more wind and rain forecast in the coming days, causing havoc up and down the country, so more abandonments could be possible.

Sprinter Sacre Back In The Public Eye

Sprinter Sacre is set to be at Newbury this Saturday, to make a first appearance in public since pulling up at Kempton in December. He will circle the parade ring for 15 minutes before racing, as he continues his rehabilitation from the irregular heart beat.
Trainer Nicky Henderson said, 'After what happened at Kempton, we're keen to give him a good experience on his return to a racecourse, and this is a perfect opportunity.'

Rock On Ruby Hopes Hang On Weather Outcome

Winner of the 2012 Champion Hurdle, Rock On Ruby has been declared for the Doncaster meeting on Thursday, but his trainer Harry Fry has said that heavy rain could scupper the plan. Fry is desperate for better ground in order to get some crucial match practise over fences, before the Arkle.
Rock On Ruby currently top price of 9/1 for the Arkle.

UK Racing News.......Top Stories

Sherwood Talks Deputy Dan

Trainer Oliver Sherwood has said that Deputy Dan could be a 'serious contender' in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, if the going is 'Soft'. The six-year old is a general 16/1 for the Neptune, although a decision on the shorter contest, or the Albert Bartlett, will not be made until much nearer the festival.
Deputy Dan had picked up an injury when winning at Warwick but is back in training.

Paul Nicholls Waits On The Weather Outcome

Paul Nicholls believes he has two well handicapped horses for the Betfair Hurdle on Saturday, in Irving and Irish Saint, but which one will run is all dependant on the weather.
According to Nicholls, the more it rains, the better for Irish Saint, and the less likely that Irving will line up.
On Monday, Nicholls said, 'Irish Saint relished the testing ground and hosed in at Ascot.' Nicholls also added, 'The handicapper raised him 12 lbs, but he only has a 5 lb penalty, so he's nicely in, and you can see why he's favourite (7/1).'

Morning Assembly Going Straight For RSA Chase

Morning Assembly will be heading straight for the RSA Chase says trainer Pat Fahy. Fahy said that it was always the plan to go from Christmas to Cheltenham, as not to over race him.
A Grade 1 winner over hurdles, Morning Assembly has continued to progress since being sent out chasing in Autumn, taking his first two races at 2m4f and 2m6f.

Then upped in trip to 3 miles, in the Grade 1 Topaz Novice Chase at Leopardstown in December, Morning Assembly was beaten in the final stages by Carlingford Lough. Despite this loss, Fahy believes that stamina is Morning Assembly's strong-point.
Currently a 10/1 shot for the RSA Chase, and has been partnered with Ruby Walsh in his first three starts over fences, but no rider has been confirmed as yet.

Shock as 28 Year Old Lucy Stack Dies

The world of UK racing has been left in shock after hearing the news that 28 year old Lucy Stack had passed away. The winning owner and breeder died 'in tragic circumstances' on Sunday at her home near Cashel.
Lucy saw her pink and black colours carried to victory twice by the flat stayer Parkers Mills. She also bred Clenor, the prolific US miler.
The families ask that they be left to grieve and people to respect their privacy at this very sad time.

Definitely taken from us too soon, thoughts go out to the families involved. RIP.
