Sunday's Tips Results

A decent day overall, nothing more, ensuring my decision to abandon my usual Sunday's off, was just about justified.
The members tips which saw 2 wins from 3, with odds-on favourite CAPE CLEAR ISLAND (1/5f) just holding on to win the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden, over 6f at Fairyhouse, beating an impressive run by 20/1 shot Windsor Beach by a nose.
Next we had the Lyrath Estate Hotel & Spa Summer Ladies Day Handicap, over 6f, and GREEK CANYON (11/2) made it another close win, as he rallied to regain the lead in the final 100 yards and just holding on from Kiss The Stars to win by a shoulder.
The third members tip did fail however, and of course, it was Darwin (2/1f), the horse I decided to go against (although reluctantly), that won the Belgrave Stakes. He led over 2 furlongs out, and was pressed strongly but kept on well. My tip SAILORS SWAN, put in an effort over 1 1/2f out to go second, before fading quickly and dropping to 4th.

As for the free tips, which came from Stratford's jumps meeting, they were a little more disappointing, first with the 2:20 SGH Martineau "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle over 2m 1/2f, and 8/11f SERGEANT THUNDER was fairly poor as he found nothing in the tank being driven on the home-turn, and was beaten before the last, dropping to third on the flat.
Then I had PAPRADON (5/1) in the Coventry Telegraph Handicap Chase over 2m 7f, who appeared to have a tough race. The 10-year old led until headed between the last 2, ridden and faded very quickly, eased towards the finish, and appeared to finish a little sore.
The last tip was an each-way fancy on DOVILS DATE (9/1 sp), and the 5year old grey finished third. Had led a couple of times, but found no extra before the last, and made mistake at the last.

Sunday's Free Tips

I'm hoping for a better day today, after failing miserably yesterday, and the free tips come from the jumps meeting at Stratford, where going is currently described as Good (Good-Firm in places GoingStick 7.4), with showers expected.

The first race from the meeting is the 2:20 SGH Martineau "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle (Class 4), over 2m 110y, with just 4 runners, there's one stand-out pick in SERGEANT THUNDER who has won 2 from 4 at the distance. First time hood being tried, suggesting trainer Paul Nicholls is hopeful of more to come from the 5-year old.

Next, we have the 2:50 Coventry Telegraph Handicap Chase (Class 4), over 2m 7f, and favour is for PAPRADON (7/2 - Coral), who is a course-distance winner, and has 4 of 8 attempts at the distance. Only won 3 of 20 on the going, but the rest of the field don't fair any better in that department.

And last but not least for the free tips, we have the 3:20 Pride of Birmingham Handicap Hurdle (Class 3), over 2m 110y, and an each-way bet is advised on DOVILS DATE (6/1 - Ladbrokes). Has won 3 of 7 at the distance, and 1 of 2 on the predicted going (the other finished 3/9 in Class 3 Handicap).
Trainer, Tim Vaughan, has a decent overall record at Stratford (over the last 5 seasons), with a win strike rate of 17%, and has won 2 of 4 races in the last fortnight.

Today's meeting at Stratford is available to watch live on At The Races.

And that's it for now, but please do check back regularly for more tips. Also check the subscription packages, they're great value, and chance to win some great prizes, including tickets, cash and merchandise.
